Indian constitution
The principles of the government of India greatly influence the government. Limited government limits the government's power, and makes sure that the president and other government officials are following the laws, and can be sent to jail if they are not.
Popular sovereignty greatly influences the Indian government as people hold most of the power, and o the people have the power to vote. It also ensures that the people control the government, and not the other way around. This principle also encourages limited government as the government’s power is restricted. Individual rights influence the government as the government is not able to take away the rights of people, such as freedom of speech or religion, even if they are accused of a crime. Republicanism influences the government as it allows the people to elect their representatives whom they want to be a part of the way the country is run, and stops just one person from taking over the government. This makes the government depend more on the people, and ensures that the people hold the power.
Separation of powers influences the government as it splits the government into three branches, which guarantees that one group is not helping to control the whole country which could turn into an oligarchy. It divides the power also to protect one person or group from overthrowing the government. Checks and balances is a principle of government that influences the government of India. It checks the power of each branch, which includes the executive, legislative, and judicial branch to make sure that one is not becoming too powerful and to keep each branch in check.
Federalism greatly influences the Indian government as it splits the power between the state, local, and national government. This makes sure that the power is safe, secure, and more spread out to reduce the chance of corruption.
All of these principles influence the government in a good way as the people have more rights and that the government is more limited. The people of India can be more happy, healthy, and prosperous if they have these principles in their government.
Government Functions
There are many different levels of government in the Indian Constitution. Powers are split between the central government, state governments, and local governments. India has weakened their local governments and increased the power in their national governments because they felt that things like education and other important issues would not be carried out correctly due to the problems with sharing power in local governments.
The central government has exclusive power that involves in the foreign policy, defense of the country, communications, the building of railroads, taxation on corporations, and currency. The central government basically has the power over broad topics and anything that involves the whole country. The central government is the only level of government that can handle the money of the country, as it is a very important asset hat can be used for education, war, and things that can benefit the entire country. The central government is also the only level of government that can manage foreign policies, and can deal with treaties, alliances, and things like declaring war. The central government also can deal with the defense of the country, to make sure that if they are attacked by another country then they will not be destroyed. The defense of the country is a thing that is important to all its parts, so that is the reason that the central government handles it.
The state and local governments have the sole power to legislate on some subjects that include law and order, public health and sanitation, entertainment, taxation on agriculture income, betting and gambling, and alcoholic beverages. All of the levels of government can concern themselves with the criminal law, contracts, population control, social security, education, and marriage and divorces. The state and local governments manage issues that are specific to their own area, as beverages and gambling would not be a good thing for the central government to handle. The local government would handle these subjects better than a central government, as the geographic features and type of people might be different in various parts of the country.
It is good for the country to have many different levels of government as the national government can address many issues that plague the whole country while the local and state governments can elaborate on these issues to fit the people and geographic features in the specific area.
Requirements of the Indian people
The government of India meets the needs of its citizens in many different ways. The government has created laws that protect the society from corruption, and makes the society a place that is fair and peaceful. Without laws, there would be chaos and disorder in the society and it would be unorganized. Many unfair doings would happen if India did not have laws. If someone works to create something, and if there are no laws, then an unethical individual can come and destroy it or steal it, and there would be no consequences for them.
The government of India has created and provided courts for the citizens, so that they can have a fair trial and not be immediately thrown in jail if they are falsely accused of a horrible crime. The court judges can decide on the innocence of the people who are charged with committing crimes, and also choose what punishment they will receive if they are found guilty. This way there is fairness for all the people in India.
In India, the government provides schools for the children to learn and be educated, so that they can get good jobs and create lives for themselves. If the government did not provide free public schools, then most of the 1/3 amount of people in India that are educated would decrease, and only the people who had enough money could go to private schools. People can learn many things in school, like how to survive in the real world, history about their country so they know about their society, and other skills that will help them make money in the future.
India’s government also protects the country with its Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Indian Coast Guard. Without this protection, India would be very vulnerable and other countries could easily conquer it. If another country attacks India, then they will be ready with their defense, and would be able to attack back.
Libraries are another important thing that the Indian government has provided for the citizens of India. People can come and learn to appreciate writing, and learn the joy of reading. They can also learn about new things, and can experience different views that can help them in the future when thinking about getting a job.
Public and private parks have been provided in India where people can come and socialize, and where the people who live in crowded cities and towns can come to a place that is isolated, peaceful, and a beautiful green.
Hospitals have also been provided by the government, and most of the hospitals in India are government funded. People can come to the hospital when they are in need of medical help, and can stay there until they get better. Without hospitals, many people would die as most people in India do not have or cannot afford the correct medical supplies that could help in a dire situation.
Roles of the Indian people
Citizens can participate in many ways. Governments are made more powerful and the country actually starts working well together when the people start to take a more active role in the government.
There are many ways that people can contribute and participate in their own government. In India’s government, people participate by voting for their representatives. They can vote in elections or referendums which will choose the candidates who will lead the government and affect the whole country. Sadly, citizens cannot take part in a jury as there is no jury system in India now. There was a jury system until 1959, and then it was abolished, due to one case that a jury was misled by one judge and the media. "The Nanavati case was responsible for abolition of jury trials in India in 1960. It was the last trial by a jury." (Debroy, Bibek)
People in India can also do their part in India’s government by paying their taxes, which will help towards building roads, buildings, and it can also help provide money for education healthcare. This will help everyone in the country, as everyone needs an education, and if India is doing well, then the people will be affected in a good way too, as their nation is developing and growing.
Another way that people in India can be beneficial to their country is by just following the laws and not getting in any trouble that involves breaking the law. People can also participate in each government by even protesting things peacefully, as they have their own opinions and they are sharing them with the country. This can help make significant changes to the issues that the people think are unfair or something that does not follow the Constitution of India.
People can even run for a position in government, and they can make more direct changes to the it in this way. People in India can also donate some of their time or money to government run organizations, which could help the government and in turn also the organization, which most probably is trying to help people who are in need of food and shelter.
